Real stories from clients who have trusted us with their brows.
Everything you'll want to know before booking your ombré powder brows or machine hairstrokes appointment. Still curious? Reach out and we'll walk you through it personally.
Ombré powder brows are a semi-permanent technique where pigment is deposited into the skin using a digital machine in tiny, dotted layers. The result is a soft, powdered finish that looks like brows lightly filled in with makeup — darker and crisper at the tail, softer and lighter at the front.
Unlike microblading, no blades are involved. This makes the technique gentler on the skin and suitable for a much wider range of skin types, including oily and mature skin where hair-stroke techniques tend to blur.
Machine hairstrokes are crisp, hair-like lines drawn one at a time using a digital permanent makeup device fitted with a single ultra-fine needle. The strokes mimic the direction and length of your natural brow hairs, giving the most realistic, hyper-natural finish currently available.
Because the needle moves with the machine's controlled vibration rather than being dragged manually like microblading, the strokes heal sharper and the technique causes less trauma to the skin.
Microblading uses a handheld blade to manually cut strokes into the skin. It's a beautiful technique, but the blade trauma can cause strokes to blur over time, especially on oily or mature skin.
Machine techniques (both ombré and hairstrokes) use a digital device that deposits pigment in tiny pixel-like dots with controlled depth and pressure. The result is more consistent healing, sharper retention, and a procedure that's friendlier to a broader range of skin types.
Choose hairstrokes if you want the most natural, hair-by-hair look and you have normal to dry skin with sparse but existing brow hairs.
Choose ombré powder if you want a fuller, softly-shaded "makeup look," if your skin is oily, or if you have very little natural hair to work with.
Choose a combo (hairstrokes at the front, powder shading through the body and tail) if you want the realism of hairstrokes plus the density of powder. We're happy to recommend the right approach during your consultation.
Most clients describe the sensation as mildly uncomfortable rather than painful — somewhere between threading and a light scratching feeling. A topical numbing cream is applied before and during the procedure, so the majority of the session is very tolerable.
Pain tolerance varies, and sensitivity can be slightly higher around your menstrual cycle, so we recommend scheduling outside that window if possible.
Plan for about 2 to 3 hours for your first session. The actual pigmentation only takes around an hour — the rest of the time is spent on consultation, brow mapping, shape design, and color selection. We never rush this stage; getting the shape right is what makes the difference between brows that flatter your face and brows that just sit on it.
The follow-up touch-up session 6 to 8 weeks later usually takes 1 to 2 hours.
Every person heals differently. Some skin types retain pigment fully on the first pass; others lose 20–40% of the color during healing. The 6–8 week touch-up lets us fine-tune the shape, deepen the color where needed, and add density wherever the pigment didn't take evenly.
This second session is included in the price of all our brow services — it's part of the procedure, not an add-on.
Ombré powder brows typically last 2 to 3 years before a refresh is recommended.
Machine hairstrokes typically last 1 to 2 years.
Longevity depends on your skin type (oily skin fades faster), sun exposure, skincare ingredients (retinols, acids, and exfoliants speed fading), and your overall lifestyle. We recommend an annual color refresh to keep brows looking their best.
Days 1–3: Brows look bold, dark, and a little intense. This is completely normal.
Days 4–7: Light scabbing and flaking begin. Do not pick at them — let the skin shed naturally.
Days 7–14: Brows may look surprisingly faint, almost as if the color disappeared. This is called the "ghosting" phase and is part of normal healing.
Weeks 4–6: The true color emerges as the skin fully heals, just in time for your touch-up appointment.
1 week before: Stop any retinol, AHA, BHA, or vitamin C products on the brow area. Avoid waxing, threading, or tinting your brows — we want to see your natural hair pattern.
48 hours before: Avoid blood thinners such as aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, and vitamin E (only if medically safe for you to pause them).
24 hours before: No alcohol and no caffeine on the day of the appointment. Both increase bleeding and reduce pigment retention.
Arrive with clean, makeup-free skin, eat a proper meal beforehand, and bring a reference photo if there's a particular brow look you love.
First 10 days: Keep the area completely dry. No sweating, no swimming, no saunas, no steam, no direct shower water on your brows. Pat the area with a clean tissue if it gets wet.
No makeup, sunscreen, or skincare on or near the brows during healing.
Apply only the aftercare balm we provide, sparingly, exactly as directed. Sleep on your back if you can. Avoid heavy workouts and direct sun for two weeks. Full written aftercare instructions are sent to you before your appointment.
Permanent makeup is not recommended if you are:
Pregnant or breastfeeding · prone to keloid scarring · currently undergoing chemotherapy · taking blood thinners or immunosuppressants · on Accutane (must be off for at least 6 months) · diabetic without medical clearance · experiencing active skin conditions on the face (eczema, severe acne, dermatitis, psoriasis flare-ups).
Certain autoimmune conditions, viral skin conditions, or recent Botox/fillers also require evaluation. If you're unsure, message us before booking — we'll review your specific situation and let you know honestly whether you're a candidate.
Sometimes, yes — but it depends on how dark, how saturated, and what color the existing pigment has faded to. Faded, light, properly-shaped previous work can often be enhanced. Heavy, dark, or poorly-shaped work usually needs to be removed or significantly lightened first before new pigment can be applied.
Please send us a clear, well-lit photo of your current brows (no makeup, no filter) before booking and we'll honestly assess whether to schedule a procedure or recommend removal first.
